Dear friends of Chile and around the world,
The last days we’ve got a lot of questions about The Gathering playing a benefit concert in Chile. So we decided to give you all some info about this matter.
Ever since we’ve heard about the earthquake and all the damages it caused in Chile, we immediately started talking about how we as a band can do anything to help.
As you also probably know Chile has a special place in our hearts. All the 4 times we have played there we’ve been overwhelmed by the warm welcome and great enthusiasm for our music. This was also the reason we recorded the DVD “A noise severe” in Santiago and some of us have also spent holidays in Chile to discover this beautiful country even more.
Chile is also the home country of our dear Gema, Renés girlfriend and an important member of The Gathering crew. We were in Greece the morning we heard about the earthquake. Gema immediately tried to reach her family, but due to the electricity cut off in Chile this was not possible. It was a very hard time for her and this also affected us all very much. Luckily she got hold of her family in the end finding they were safe, experiencing only material damages.
Straight away we talked about possibilities of how we could give out something positive to the people of Chile in these hard times
Playing music is what we do best (or at least we believe so;-) ) and this is something sincere and personal coming from our hearts. We discussed different possibilities to help and we all agreed playing a special concert there could not only raise money, but could also to give our beloved friends over there the strength and hope to rebuild their homes.
At the moment we are putting all our effort into making this idea come true. We’ve asked our own crew and the promoter in Chile to help us and we got a big yes from everyone! What we can tell you so far is that we will give a benefit concert in Santiago. We hope very soon (date and place to be confirmed). The band, crew and promoter will all do this for free and the (small) ticket fee will be donated directly to people in need because of the earthquake damages. The benefit organization is still to be confirmed.
As soon as we have more info about this we will let you know.
Until then please be patient as we will be working hard to make this come true.

Verdad que Gema es Chilena! que bueno que su familia está bien y sin mayores lamentos que lo material al igual que nosotros, solo quedan los miedos y la tristeza de ver las noticias y ver a mis compatriotas que han perdido todo, lo material y a sus familias, ha sido muy terrible, pero este fin de semana se realizó un programa de ayuda como la teletón que se llamaban "Chile ayuda a Chile" y se recaudaron más del doble de la meta propuesta!!!, imaginense lo orgullosos que nos sentimos todos los Chilenos de nuestro pueblo, creo que Gema me debe entender!…Mil veces gracias por su apoyo y preocupacion!!!…los estaremos esperando con los brazos abiertos como siempre!!!!!!!

im from Concepcion… the earthquake was 8.3 degrees… i was at hospital… and the next day… try to get home …was… the biggest test!… fishes jumping in the main street… people living in tents … was like zombieland! jojojo… ist been more than a week… there is no water yet! but… electricity is here now!….

Dear Gathering, reading this message give me shivers! I think what you are doing is really awesome for the people of Chile and I hope with all of my heart that your benefit concert can help the people who has lost everything including family and friends.
And please, please…. Film the concert and bring it our on DVD! The money you make with selling the dvd will earn more and with nore you can help more people! Besides this, you will do the fans around the world a big favor. We are all waiting on a dvd with Silje you know
Just to let you know, I play 'A noise severe' every night before I go to bed. It'd the best ever dvd I have bought and I couldn't live without it.

I was very happy to learn of his intentions to help, make no mistake, we are here to support them and listen to their music, and if the benefit of our country even better.
A greeting for Gemita , so that she is Graneros city, and as typical Chilean people, was badly damaged, with its buildings destroyed, no power, no water, but eager to move forward and stop again, been there and feel sorry see so much destruction.
Guys hope to be with you personally as I did on his last visit in the Pub – Restaurant "El Parron" in Providence, where I could see his human quality, simplicity, sympathy, and humility. Silje will be welcome and we are waiting with much affection.

if the truth is that it was terrible what happened in Chile, I am Peruvian and have 2 friends from Chile and were afraid but fortunately his whole family is fine but other families are very needy! truth would help a lot with the benefit concert for them!

This are good news, to hear that you consider Chile as a second home. We thank you all, for making the very big efford to come all the way from Europe to this far away land, that we all love. I look forward to the concert, being myself far away also (I live in Iquique, 2,000 kms. from Santiago), and i'll definetly go.
I can share with you that i am a firefighter, and i saw the devastation, and it is something unseen before, but now, a week later, i see a lot of hope, helping hands and lots of efford to build the structures and the lives of lots of fellow chileans.
I'm not a very spiritual person, but last night (it is hard to believe, i know), after struggling to sleep, i dreamed that (and this is very silly) i talked to you, to the band, after a concert, and i told you the bad news about the quake. And the answer was a lot of sadness, but also lots of sympathy, the intention to comunicate to us, and a promise for a concert in Chile. Today, i took a look at my mail, and there it was, the answer, as i dreamed it to be.

Im so happy to hear that you guys are doing a concert to help Chile. When I read that I almost cry. I hope Gema is ok now. I know how she feels. I'm living in USA n the morning of the earthquake my mom called my bother to let us know about it. She told my bro that a big earthquake just hit Chile, but she was fine. As soon as I knew about it I was trying to call back, but It was imposible. I was so scared n worry for my family who lives in Talca, Parral n others little towns near to Concepcion. Finaly I talk to my mom again in Sunday, and She told me that some family members lose their houses. It was sad, but the only important thing is that they all are ok. Im far away from my country, but I am doing the best I can in Atlanta to help my country. Chelean people n I are organizing some events n sending a container to aid my beautiful Chile. FUERZA CHILE!!! a big hug for all of you, specialy to Gema.

As 11:55 of Wednesday, 3 replications have occurred here in Rancagua, these were very strong, I estimate that all are above 7.5 degrees and perhaps even the epicenter of one of them is Rancagua.
I'm at work at 2000 meters in the largest underground mine in the world (El Teniente), and there's panic and everyone tries to call their families, all my coworkers who have children in school ….. ….. Please informenle to Gemma, maybe is was a new earthquake …. be informed, Armando

I think I can say for all Chileans fan of The Gathering …
"We love and respect very much …" both for their quality as musicians and human beings as charitable to the misery of others.
I find them very eloquent and consistent with their lyrics … most of all, "The West Pole" speaks of how the world or Western society, but each time this cold and indifferent to suffering.
In heart I say "THANK YOU, for being who they are and for your support to our fellow Chileans, who are not going very well.

Guys, thank you very much for this news. I couldn´t go the last time you came here, but see you again now will cheer us all of your fans. People here has changed with the earthquake. People are stressed, disparied, frightened. But, the good thing is that we are very strong people when this things happens. The hole country gets together forgetting about the things that separate us.

Que grandes personas son ustedes…un ejemplo tremendo de solidaridad…empatía….gracias por su ayuda…gracias por reaccionar de esta forma. Ya van varios días desde el terremoto/tsunami y no es tan repetida la noticia en los medios, aun así el enorme pesar y dolor en las familias afectadas continua. De a poco se trata de volver a la normalidad, el gobierno puso a disposición colegios de emergencia para que los chicos no perdieran clases, a los miles de jóvenes voluntarios que quieren ayudar a contruir viviendas de emergencia se les siguen sumando cientos más. La esperanza de estar mejor, de recontruir los hogares abatidos,de recuperar las fuentes de trabajo hacen de mi pueblo único. No nos rendiremos, dos minutos no nos haran caer,el espíritu solidario lo compartimos con ustedes es mayor y ayuda como la brindada por ustedes da aun más ganas de salir adelante. No somos olvidados por el mundo =D ….me encanta su banda =D …vivo bastante lejos de Santiago por lo que no podre asistir al espectáculo pero estoy segura de que mucha gente si lo hara….llenaran el teatro!!…besos desde Chile!
